Peter Boynton
was
Vice President of Ceasers New Jersey at the time that Teri Lanni and he
hired me to be their hotel consultant on the development of the Boardwalk
Regency Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. It was an exciting time
- with a construction period of only six months to ready the hotel for
opening. I spent two weeks in Las Vegas learning the Caesars system
and staffing, then 6 months in Atlantic City supporting the hiring and
training of a staff of 4,500 employees. Memorable.
James Durbin
was
President of Marriott Hotels for 20 years, taking the company from four
hotels in the early 60's to 120 hotels, and setting the stage for what
the Marriott is today. Retiring about 10 years ago, he and his son
David now either have built and/or operate on management contract 20 hotels
in the Southeastern portion of the U.S.. Mr. Durbin acts as our adviser
on a broad range hotel matters..
Carleton Lichty
is
part of my original hotel family that operated the Los Angeles Biltmore
Hotel, consisting of myself, my father, Edward S. Bernard and Baron Long.
Long also owned the U.S. Grant Hotel in San Diego, where Carleton was his
General Manager. Later, for many years, he was President and moving
force behind the restoration of the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego where
he returned the hotel to its former prominence.
Earl Clark
was
Vice President of Colwell Mortgage trust that had several hotel properties
in the mid-west upon which they had foreclosed. I analyzed the properties
for him, supervised the management, performed turnaround services and assisted
with the property sales. We successfully liquidated the properties
at prices that saved the company millions.
Gordon Watkins
was
the leading analyst of hotel development projects for Laventhol and Horwath.
Together we combined to assist developers in bringing successful hotel
development projects throughout Southern California.
Robert Steele
is
a leading appraiser of commercial properties throughout the Western United
States. We utilize his firm, Parkcenter Realty Advisors, to perform
formal appraisals on our hotels. Typically, Bernard undertakes the
initial evaluation for the client, doing the research required to perform
the projects. Parkcenter reviews our work and makes appropriate adjustments.
Frequently our numbers match.
John Burlingame
is
a highly trusted and long time member of the inner circle at Hyatt.
John was a member of the development staff at Hyatt at the time I was retained
by Triad America, owned by Adnan Kashogi, to redevelop downtown Salt Lake
City. Together we developed a master plan to implement the client's
needs, supporting the development of a Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown
Salt Lake City together with two other planned hotels. Today John
is in charge of Hyatt's timeshare development program.
Ken Skinner
is
a highly talented long term associate of Fritz B. Burns, who developed
50,000 residential homes in Westchester (Los Angeles) California.
Together with the homes, he built a fine quality community around a first
class 760 room hotel - The Airport Marina. The hotel had been successfully
leased to Amfac. They subsequently determined to leave the hotel
business, subleasing the hotel to a Charles Lee. Lee turned out to
be a predator, milking the hotel for all that it was worth - and we were
engaged to rescue the property. Our team of professional managers
together with our redevelopment staff, re-established the hotel in the
LAX market and assisted the Burns Foundation in the successful sale of
the property to the Furama Corporation, putting $2,500.000 on the bottom
line in 20 months in addition to planning and implementing a $4,000.000
refurbishment.
Robert Morgan
was
President of Newport Realty Investors, a Real Estate Trust (REIT) during
a recent recession. Bernard was engaged to oversee the management
and perform the turnaround on their eight hotels upon which they had foreclosed.
Bernard was responsible for optimizing the value of the hotels and assisting
with their sale. This activity contributed materially to returning
Newport Realty Investors to profitability.
Robert Riley
is
a colleague of many years. He was former President of Growth Realty
Advisors Real Estate Investment Trust. Bob specializes in bringing
equity investors into projects throughout the Western United States.
William Tooley
is
the successful developer and operator of some of the most impressive office
building in Southern California. His family was a successful owner
and operator of hotels. Bill recommended our firm to Singapore investors
who had built two unsuccessful Hampton Inns. We operated the properties
for 3 years effectively tripling their values. Highly respected,
Bill is a sounding board for parties interested in commercial development
in the Western United States.
Phillip "Dave"
Thomas owner of American Investors, is an investment banker who has
utilized our services in the development of his hotel in Western Samoa.
